Established in 2015, Department focuses on holistic health culture, socio cultural development, educational and economic empowerment of women through professional training. The department offers undergraduate programme in BSc Home Science and Post graduate programme in M.Sc Food & Nutrition. The faculty aims to bring out professionals who can work as academicians, researchers, nutritionists, dieticians, fashion designers, interior designers, diet consultants, food experts and innovators.

Progamme Offered



B.Sc. (Home Science)


Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Home Science is a full-time three-year undergraduate degree course offered by the Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur.


Eligibility: Candidate must have passed 10+2 in Science/Agriculture with 45% marks from a recognized board shall be eligible for the course.



M.Sc(Home science) Food and Nutrition


M.sc in Home Science is a 2 Years/4 Semester Post-Graduate degree course that a student can pursue holding a relevant bechelor’s degree. It is a course that focuses on the study of Principles, Methods and Techniques through which the professionals can bring changes in the society by improvising the lifestyle of a family by providing healthy diets as required by the human body.



Eligibility: At least 40% in 10+2 Examination of UP/ CBSE /Other Board in any discipline with Biology as one of the subject.



Facilities - Laboratories


1. Food and Nutrition Lab

Foods and Nutrition offers an interdisciplinary study of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biophysics and Instrumentation. For imparting hands on practical training to the students, the department has well-appointed laboratories with updated modern equipment. Experiential learning is through equipment available for chemical, physical, microscopic and sensory investigations of Food and Nutrition products. Lab offers various leaning aspects to students such as Food Biochemistry, Food Microbiology, Fruit and Vegetable Processing, Dairy Engineering, Food Process Engineering, Baking and Confectionary, Food Analysis, Food Packing. Lab is equipped with Refrigerator, Juice-Mixer-Grinder, OTG, Microwave, Hand Blender, 7 Gas Burners with smoke chimney, Electric Toaster, Weighing Machine.




2. Textile Lab

The department has well equipped laboratory for the study of clothing and textiles. Space and equipment are available for chemical, physical, microscopic and sensory investigations of textiles and for textile product development research, and the physical and socio-psychological aspects of clothing. Drafting table, printing table, magnifying glass, scissors, measuring tape, scales, Foot pedal sewing machines, Burning lamps, microscopes




3. Home Management Lab

To make students familiar with a variety of household management chores, a vast range of aesthetic, culinary, innovative and creative activities are performed and taught in a well-ventilated Home Science Lab. Lab has working tables for demonstrating and conducting home science practicals under the guidance of their respective teacher. Students are given training in food & nutrition, clothing & textiles, home management, stitching, embroidery, knitting, flower arrangements and floor decorations (Rangoli).
